The Banister Fletcher Lecture, is the highlight of the London Society Calendar. It is held in memory of Sir Banister Flight Fletcher, the author of A History of Architecture on the Comparative Method and one of the founders of the Society.
This year’s speaker is Jude Kelly CBE who, until last year was Artistic Director of the South Bank Centre. During her time there, as Sir Nicholas Serota told the The Guardian, she “made Southbank Centre the natural home for some of the world’s most celebrated artists and organisations, whilst bringing more visitors than ever through the doors.‚ She also transformed the buildings and the spaces and activities around them to create a vital piece of city. She was previously artistic director of Battersea Arts Centre and the founding director of the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds.
In 2010 she founded the Women of the World Festival (WOW) which celebrates the achievements of women and girls as well as looking at the obstacles they face, and which is now an annual international event.
