The Clapham Grand (at Clapham Junction) is asking for memories of the historic music hall and variety venue as part of its fundraising campaign. Founded in 1900 by Dan Leno, with the ambition of providing a stage and a venue for performers and locals of the Battersea area, The Clapham Grand has had a life as a music hall, cinema, bingo club, live music venue, nightclub and now styles itself as ‘a palace of modern variety’.
But its very existence is under threat from the pandemic lockdown. Having been closed since March, with no revenue, The Grand is sliding into huge amounts of debt, placing the future of the venue and staff’s jobs at risk.
