This year, St Bartholomew’s Hospital is celebrating its 900th anniversary, having dispensed free health care on the same site since the reign of Henry I.

From 1732 the hospital was rebuilt by the leading architect James Gibbs. Three of Gibbs’s four great blocks survive, including the North Wing, which houses the Hogarth Stair and the spectacular Great Hall.
This tour by Barts Heritage CEO Will Palin, takes place in the North Wing on the eve of a major £9.5m restoration project, due for completion in 2025. During the tour Will describes the challenges and complexities of the project as well as the exciting opportunities it offers for public access and engagement both during and after the works. The tour will conclude with refreshments in the Barts Heritage offices.
