IN PERSON | Connecting Young People and the Built Environment

How do we involve young people in the processes that will shape their futures?

Although many regeneration and development projects are supportive of community engagement, very few set out to engage with young residents.

In this roundtable Resolve Collective look at the young community practitioners in London who are doing work that often doesn’t appear on our professional radar but is crucial in shaping locales.

Come along and hear the first hand experiences of young people experiencing regeneration and proactively working on projects that positively affect their changing environments.

Featuring contributions from Halima Ali, Writer/Playwright/ZineMaker; Nabiha Qadir, Part 1 RIBA, Community Lead at Play Nice, Exhibitor Consultant at ‘Blueprint For All’; and Mohammed NoorCert.H.E Architecture, D Lab Trainee, Hobs Academy Pilot Alumni, and V&A East Advisor, the roundtable is aimed at professionals and groups involved in youth engagement and youth-led built environment projects.

Examples of what will be discussed include ‘gentrification as experienced by young people’, ‘intergenerational collaboration’, ‘young people’s view of what architecture can do to positively shape their cities’, ‘the perception of planning for underrepresented groups’.

This event is presented in partnership with Open City. Open City runs educational programmes connecting young people with architecture and the urban landscape across London. These include Accelerate, a year-long course supporting young people from under-represented communities to pursue city-making careers, and Architecture in Schools, a programme of design workshops supporting primary school students to learn about and redesign their neighbourhoods.
