The Corporation of London looks after more green space in and around the capital than any other public body - including Hampstead Heath, Epping Forest, Burnham Beeches, West Ham Park and Highgate Wood. It also manages the historic City Commons such as Ashtead Common, Farthing Downs and Spring Park. In the Square Mile itself it is responsible for the network of gardens, churchyards, parks and plazas where City workers can escape from the noise and bustle of the city.
These spaces include such gems as Postman’s Park and Bunhill fields Burial Ground, the resting place of William Blake, Daniel Defoe, John Bunyan and Susannah Wesley. Colin Buttery, Director of Open Spaces in the City and Paul Thomson, Superintendent of Epping Forest. Both will explore work of the Department across all of the Open Spaces as well as looking in-depth into Epping Forest.
