Could you be one of our trustees?

The London Society is for all those who love London regardless of their professional background. Founded in 1912 by a group of eminent Londoners concerned about the lack of planning in the capital, it aims to explore and debate London’s built environment, looking at ways in which the city might become a better place in which to live and to work.

The London Society is involved in many aspects of London life, however the core activities are:

  • Curating and hosting talks and debates about London
  • Curating and hosting tours of key London buildings and places of interest
  • Acting as the secretariat for the APPG on London’s Planning and Built Environment
  • Publication of the Annual Journal

With several of our Trustees due to stand down, we are looking for people who can bring new energy, capacity and diverse voices or specific experience to our board.

As we aim to build on the success of the past few years we are particularly keen to recruit people with experience of the following:

  • Fundraising or grant applications; ideally within the charity sector at a senior level
  • Marketing and social media, and membership recruitment
  • Curatorial experience

We are equally keen to hear from people who do not have this experience but could contribute to our thinking and to our future success and resilience.

As a charity that aims to speak for London, we are conscious of a need for trustees to better reflect the diversity of the capital, and so we are particularly keen to hear from people from backgrounds currently under-represented in our leadership and governance.

Previous experience as a Trustee is not necessary, as we are committed to full and appropriate induction, mentoring, training and support for all new Trustees.

Please note that Trustee roles are voluntary positions, although reasonable travel expenses will be paid.
