We’re delighted to introduce Alice Lester, one of the new trustees to join The London Society.
Alice first encountered the Society after spotting one of our annual public talks only to discover it was already sold out. Rather than being deterred, her response was simple: “I want to be part of this.” She became a member, and as she learned more about the Society’s work, its mission and values increasingly aligned with her own.
With a nearly 40-year career working largely in London’s public sector as a planner and regeneration leader, Alice brings deep professional insight into how the city functions, evolves and regenerates. She felt the Society was a natural fit for her experience, and a place where she could meaningfully contribute to discussions, publications and outreach.
Having lived in London since 1984, Alice also brings a rich, long-term “lived London” perspective — shaped both by decades of professional practice in the built environment and by everyday life in the city. Alongside this, she brings an extensive network of thoughtful and engaged peers, adding further depth to the Society’s convening role.
Alice describes herself as someone who likes doing things and contributing to decision-making. Becoming a trustee felt like a way to add value both personally and collectively. She is keen to help steward The London Society as a trusted platform for exploring London’s challenges, opportunities and identity in a rapidly changing era encouraging curiosity, critical thought and a deep appreciation of the city’s complexity.
As a trustee, Alice is committed to ensuring the Society continues to thrive as a vibrant facilitator of civic conversation for Londoners today and in the future.
