Join us for an awe-inspiring tour of a Hindu temple.
The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, also known as the Neasden Temple, is built entirely using traditional methods and materials.
The mandir (the Sanskrit word for temple), is 102,018 square feet and also has a cultural centre, which includes a foyer, a prayer hall, a conference hall, an exhibition hall, a marriage hall, a sports hall, a library, and a health clinic.
At the time of its completion, the Neasden temple was the largest Hindu mandir built outside of India.
Not only is the Neasden Temple a place of religious worship for Hindus, it is also a tourist attraction. The complex won the Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award for 2024, placing the Mandir amongst the top 10% things to do in the world from more than 8.7 million attractions.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer visited the temple recently, saying: “I’ve been privileged to visit the Neasden temple in London. It truly is a landmark for hindus and the whole of the United Kingdom. It was incredible to see firsthand how thousands of volunteers have been inspired to serve society. This was clearly visible during the pandemic, the Ukrainian crisis, and now the cost of living crisis.”
The temple was also recognised by the London Faith & Belief Community Awards for its commitment to supporting and empowering women through its annual International Women’s Day (IWD) celebrations. The London Faith & Community Awards celebrates creative, generous and vital work of London’s faith and belief communities. Vital work is carried out to support women through providing education, advocacy, and friendship.
