At The London Society, we love a good podcast and this is the reason we launched London Explained in 2023 to explore areas within the capital and uncover their past, present and future.

Our good friends at Open City have their own brilliant podcast, which is now evolving into something new. They want to take an approach to vary the formats on offer on the channel so that they can cover the built environment in different ways and create spaces for other types of guests and their expertise. Don’t worry, they will keep the news review format but the charity has now launched Deconstructed, hosted by Matthew Lloyd Roberts. Each episode he will be joined by a guest with a passion for a particular building or place.

For the latest edition, Matthew is talks to George Saumarez Smith, Design Director at ADAM Architecture. They discuss the church of St Anne's Limehouse, designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor and consecrated in 1730 as one of the 'Queen Anne Churches' built by the New Church Commission. You can check it out here.

St Anne's Limehouse is currently campaigning to raise funds for repairs ahead of their tercentenary, with a programme of public events ongoing: https://www.hawksmoor300limehouse.com

Deconstructed is recorded and produced at the Open City offices located in Bureau.
