If your interest in London’s buildings and locations extends to maps, plans and views, you might like to join the London Topographical Society. Founded in 1880 the Society is a registered charity which concentrates on publishing books and sheet material illustrating the history, growth and topography of London of all periods.
As a publishing society we do not organise meetings (apart from our AGM) or visits but focus our energies on attractive publications and our newsletter.
The annual subscription is £20 (reduced to £18 if paid by standing order) for which members receive the Society’s annual publication, a 20-page newsletter which is published twice a year and a 25% discount on past publications - as well as refreshments at our AGMs held in historically interesting buildings in central London, often not open to the public. This year's AGM was held in the splendid Great Hall at St. Bart's Hospital.
Annual publications are varied, such as the 2016 publication "London Plotted: Plans of London Buildings c.1450-1720" by Dorian Gerhold, Hardback, 320pp, 22 x 30.5 cm (RRP £35) and last year’s which was "London Topographical Record, Vol XXXI", a five-yearly collection of essays and illustrations contributing to the knowledge of London's past (RRP £25). The full list of publications can be found on the Society’s website at: www.londontopsoc.org/latest-publications
