Trustee Vacancies – The London Society

The London Society exists to make the complex issues facing Londoners clear, relatable, and actionable — translating policy and planning into everyday understanding. We act as a conduit for Londoners’ voices, promoting what good looks like, quantifying what doesn’t, and encouraging constructive conversations rooted in real-world experience. By connecting bricks and mortar with hearts and minds, we help inform and connect Londoners across neighbourhoods, networks, and shared places.

We are now seeking three new trustees to join our Board.

Founded in 1912, The London Society is an independent civic society and charity that brings people together to debate the big questions about London’s housing, heritage, environment, and growth. Through talks, tours, podcasts, and campaigns, we provide a trusted platform where ordinary Londoners, professionals, policymakers, and campaigners can share ideas and shape the future of the city.

Why become a trustee?

As a trustee, you will:

  • Help steer one of London’s most influential civic charities.
  • Guide our strategy and ensure strong, sustainable governance.
  • Act as an ambassador for The London Society, expanding our reach and impact.
  • Support our fundraising, partnerships and membership growth.
  • Be part of a community dedicated to connecting bricks and mortar with hearts and minds.

Trustees meet quarterly — but we are especially looking for people who will take an active role between meetings: joining working groups, building partnerships, supporting fundraising, or championing our events and campaigns.

Who we’re looking for

We welcome applications from anyone passionate about London. Previous trustee experience is not required — what matters is commitment, curiosity, and a willingness to help shape the city’s future.

We are particularly keen to hear from people with expertise in:

  • Fundraising, sponsorship, or financial management
  • Transport or infrastructure
  • Public relations, marketing, or digital engagement
  • Urban planning, architecture, or design
  • Charity governance or law
  • Diversity, inclusion, and community engagement

We actively encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and lived experiences.

What you’ll gain

  • The chance to shape the future of London’s civic and cultural life.
  • A platform to connect with leaders in planning, design, architecture and policy.
  • The opportunity to help ensure this 110-year-old Society continues to thrive in a fast-changing city.

If you would like more information before you submit your application, we will be hosting two online information sessions on October 17 and 24.

Applications close on November 7, 2025.

If you would like to apply for one of the roles directly, please forward your CV and a cover letter outlining your interest in the role to chair@londonsociety.org.uk.
