We’re Looking for a Book Review Editor

We’re looking for a ‘reviews editor’ to manage reviews of books for The London Society.

This is a voluntary (i.e. unpaid) role that we hope will appeal to a keen reader with an interest in London’s built environment, its history and its architecture. Editorial experience would be useful, but not essential.

We aim to make the Society website a definitive resource for reviews of books published about the capital, and particularly for those about the built environment.

Over the years we have reviewed many books, but we would like someone to take on this responsibility so that we can expand our coverage.

The role would include:

• Developing contacts with publishers. We receive information/press releases from some companies so have a starting point in terms of contacts, but need to broaden our reach
• Liaise with and expand our pool of book reviewers – these are (generally) Society members or trustees, but we’re keen to have as big a pool of potential reviewers as we can
• Contact publishers about review copies of relevant books
• Select a reviewer from the ‘pool’ and arrange despatch of title
• Brief a reviewer
• Chase for review copy and proof/edit for online publication
• Provide a final review to the website and social media lead
