London has been the backdrop to some great films over the years, from domestic comedies to international blockbusters (Tom Cruise seems to love the place, and Fast and Furious 9 has been blocking the City’s streets for the past few weeks). It’s also been the star in its own right, with dozens of documentaries (including the 2017Â London Symphony that many members saw at Southwark Cathedral last year).
But which are your favourites? Which, in your view, capture the essence of the capital – its messy greatness, its warts and wonderfulness, its spirit?

You might tend towards the classic Ealing comedies of Passport to Pimlico or The Lavender Hill Mob, or documentaries such as Fires Were Started or The London Nobody Knows; perhaps The Long Good Friday or tops your list. Then there’s My Beautiful Laundrette, Night and the City, Hitchcock’s Frenzy, Attack the Block, An American Werewolf in London… It’s a long, long list.
