Join the London Society for this walking tour of Aberfeldy Village, transforming a small corner of the east end into a thriving mixed community, led by the Aberfeldy LLP project team from Poplar HARCA and EcoWorld London.
The tour offers behind the scenes insights into this long term regeneration scheme, focused on community-engaged design approaches, child-friendly neighbourhoods, green corridors and sustainable travel infrastructure and the role of creativity in shaping the place.
Starting at Aberfeldy Square – the neighbourhood’s beating civic heart with its social infrastructure focus, we’ll visit the Feldy – a new community facility catering for Aberfeldy’s diverse community and an opportunity to see the new masterplan model.
We’ll then explore East India Green which runs through the development, adding overlooked green space and the over 1000 homes already delivered. Winding through colourful kantha-inspired Aberfeldy Street, a meanwhile scheme supporting small and local businesses to start and grow, we’ll pause at Abbott Road to view the planned site for a new road junction to the A12 and introduction of a new, safer pedestrian and cycle crossing connecting Aberfeldy to the rest of Poplar and beyond. From here we’ll also have sight of neighbouring development Poplar Riverside, led by St. William and learn how the schemes are working together to deliver opportunities for the area’s diverse community as physical changes take place.
The tour will conclude at Poplar Works – former 1970s constructed garages converted into fashion-focused enterprise, employment and training space, run in partnership with London College of Fashion and creative workspace provider The Trampery, exploring how Aberfeldy’s regeneration is being shaped by its textile and dockside past and how this is being re-imagined for the future.
